Oct. 15 - Oct. 18
Here is our learning for the week of Oct. 15.
We had picture day on Thursday. Order forms will be sent home soon and you can order prints if you like.
In science, we used Google Slides on the laptops to create a flow chart that explains how a product is made. We got to choose our own product and learned how to search for images on the web to add to our slides.
In our visual journals we learned how to journal about architecture - we went outside and observed buildings and structures like the school, houses, the geo-dome and the playground.. On our walk to Confederation Park we focused on journalling about nature.
We went swimming on Wednesday! REMEMBER: We have swimming on Monday and Wednesday next week!
We started reading "A Long Walk to Water". We have read 3 chapters and had lots of discussions and reflecting after each chapter. We learned that the author Linda Sue Park wrote a haiku poem when she was only 9 years old and got it published in a children's magazine and was paid $1 for her work. We learned that haiku are 3 lines long and the syllables in each line are 5, 7, and then 5. We tried writing out own haikus by clapping out syllables.
In math, we have started talking about place value. We watched a video that explained how different ancient cultures used place value and how their number systems differ from ours. Click here to watch!
There were many student teachers visiting our school this week. Two of them got to spend an entire afternoon with us.
We learned more about the murals in the Beltline. BUMP (Beltline Urban Mural Project) has installed almost 31 murals downtown in the last 3 years. We will get to look at some of these murals when we go to 2School in November. You can click here to find out more about BUMP.
REMINDERS:
- swimming on Monday and Wednesday
- field trip to Ralph Klein Park and Shepard Landfill on Tuesday Oct.22. Please bring back your form by Monday!
