Sept. 30 to Oct.4
Learning Update Sept. 30 to Oct. 4
In math we started creating our own classroom calendar. We noticed that a lot of us were not sure how to use a calendar so we decided to create our own. The grade 4s learned about decimals this week while the grade 3s finished their SLAs. The grade 3s learned how to play Roll to 100 with a 10-sided die. All students worked on a math task that involved adding 3 consecutive numbers and looking at a pattern between the middle number and the sum. All students also learned how to play Cannibal Fish! Ask us how to play!
We have continued with solving "Question of the Day" puzzles that wake up our brains! They are quick puzzles that take 5 - 10 minutes to solve and involve critical thinking.
On Monday it was Orange Shirt Day. We learned about residential schools, what happened to First Nations children and we reflected on what we could learn from this part of our past.
We got to log in to our Gmail accounts and compose a document that listed the rules for using technology. Some of us came up with over 20 rules!
In science we learned about decomposers and how they break down organic waste. We worked in a group to create a food chain that included decomposers, producers, consumers, secondary consumers, and tertiary consumers!
In gym we continued with some soccer skills, Indy 500 and dodgeball as well as playing Bench Ball against Ms. Evans' class!
We did a desk change on Monday so we are all sitting with new friends. We will change our seating arrangements every month.
Reminders:
We have swimming on Monday! Please wear your swimsuit underneath your clothes. Please pack a separate swim bag (grocery bag) that will hold your towel, underwear and any other swimming things needed (ex. goggles). Students do not have enough time to shower after so shampoo etc. is not needed.
We are still in need of parent volunteers to join us for swimming. If you are able to ride with us on the bus to swimming and stay at the pool please come join us!
We will have library book exchange every WEDNESDAY. Please remember to bring back your library book each week.
